Though AM251 followed by CBD showed more promising results in the animals and the anti-rhythmic effects were more pronounced as compared to all the other groups. Thus the co-administration of AM251 and CBD proved that the simple agonist/antagonist relationship in correspondence of CB1 receptor may not be able to provide ant arrhythmic effects alone. The ability of CBD and AM251 to treat arrhythmias proves that endocannabinoids have pro-rhythmic effects due to the CB1 receptor.
Heart attack patients and cannabisIn the journal of PLOS one, Aurora Co revealed that heart failure patients who use cannabis are less likely to die during hospital visits in comparison to those who do not test positive for cannabis. The researchers in the care of the University of Colorado reported that cannabis-using patients were not as likely to die, develop shocks or need an intra aortic balloon pump after the acute myocardial infarction (AMI) than patients who did not use cannabis. These results stated that the consumption of cannabis was not related to adverse outcomes after AMI. They stated that further investigation must be done to rule out the relation between the absorption of cannabis and improved outcomes after the AMI.
