Our CBD oil for cats is of the highest quality and extracted from organic Swiss hemp mixed with organic olive oil, hemp seed, or MCT oil, and is full of natural cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, nutrients, and antioxidants. The active compounds work synergistically to boost the therapeutic qualities of one another, creating the entourage effect.

We develop our CBD products for cats in a long-term research collaboration with the University of Bologna and their Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences. They have been used in various published clinical studies to document the positive effects of cannabidiol (CBD) in cats, dogs and horses. See more below.

Scientific research for the effect of CBD in cats, dogs, and horses

We have a research collaboration with the University of Bologna and their Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences for a range of studies for the effect of cannabidiol (CBD) in cats, dogs and horses.

The Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences is studying the effect of cannabidiol (CBD) in animals. The objective is to increase the understanding of the effect on animals to continue to improve our product development of CBD pet products. Read more about or research collaboration with the University of Bologna.

Research study shows a positive effect of CBD on cats

The research study, "Localization of cannabinoid and cannabinoid related receptors in the cat gastrointestinal tract", is published and available.

Abstract from our research study on cats:

Cannabinoid receptors showed a wide distribution in the feline gastrointestinal tract layers. Although not yet confirmed/supported by functional evidence, the present research might represent an anatomical substrate potentially valuable for helping the therapeutic use of cannabinoids during gastrointestinal inflammatory diseases in feline species.

The many benefits of CBD oil for cats

CBD oil can help with various acute and chronic diseases. While some conditions have been studied more than others, research has shown that CBD can sometimes help with arthritis, immunity, stress responses, aggression and digestive issues. Some research also shows promise for CBD helping treat diabetes, organ diseases, and symptoms of cancer treatment.

Veterinarians have found that CBD can help treat acute injuries such as sprains, torn ligaments, broken bones, and even post-operative care by reducing swelling, pain, and stiffness, based on CBD's effects on an animal's endocannabinoid system.

Frequently asked questions about our CBD for pet oils

Here are the five most well-researched benefits of CBD for pets.

Seizures
One study has shown that CBD helps to gradually reduce the frequency of seizures. According to a research study, CBD gradually reduces the frequency of seizures in dogs. CBD may also help to prevent neurotoxicity caused by seizures by interacting with endocannabinoid receptors.

Pain
If your pet is suffering joint pain, you may notice that their movement slows down or they have been eating less. Research shows that CBD use helps stimulate the endocannabinoid system, and more specifically the CB1 receptor, which is one mechanism by which CBD may help to reduce pain.

Anxiety
CBD for pets helps decrease anxiety, helping them stay calm and also improving up their reactions in intense situations.

Nausea
One study suggests that CBD has a positive effect on nausea in animals due to how CBD affects endocannabinoid receptors.

Cancer
While CBD is not a cure for cancer, some studies show that it may inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells. There is also evidence that supports CBD use for alleviating cancer treatment symptoms such as nausea and pain.

CBD is non-intoxicating, but CBD can help soothe anxiety and stress, both in humans and animals. Cannabinoid receptors are endogenous to brains of animals and play a major role in the regulation of mood, memory, appetite and pain.

Using CBD can help cause mechanisms within the endocannabinoid system’s receptors — CB1 and CB2 — which helps calm pets down.

One common reason people are apprehensive about giving their pets CBD is because they believe it will get their pet high and make them uncontrollable.

However, it’s important to remember that the intoxicating effects of cannabis are caused by the psychoactive cannabinoid THC, not cannabidiol (CBD). CBD oil that has been tested contains little to no THC and will not cause psychoactive effects in your pet.

Our CBD oils come from hemp and not cannabis, therefore, they won’t get your pet “high” at all. Your pet may become more relaxed, but this isn’t caused by the intoxicating effects of THC.

More often than not, CBD oil contains some THC as it’s almost impossible to extract one without the other. It’s best to buy CBD oil for pets containing the least amount of THC possible. If your pet gets high, this can cause adverse effects such as paranoia and general discomfort for them.

The CBD oil products for pets from Formula Swiss always have less than 0.2% THC and usually less than 0.1%.

When it comes to pet medication, finding the right dosage is very crucial. Too big of a dose can lead to several severe side effects and even death. That is why pet owners should start with a low dosage and not experiment with the pet medication before consulting with a vet.
