MEDCAN is an independent Swiss nonprofit association based in Zurich and founded in 2014. It represents people who depend on cannabis for medical reasons, advises patients, and speaks for them in politics, business, and government. A central goal is to bring patients who rely on cannabinoid treatment back into a clear legal framework, so they can be treated openly and safely.
The association promotes education, encourages an informed public conversation about medical cannabis, and campaigns for treatment that is recognised, accessible, and affordable. According to MEDCAN, somewhere between 70,000 and 100,000 people in Switzerland currently use cannabis without legal cover to manage their health conditions.
Much of this work is carried out voluntarily by people who give their time to inform patients, connect them with one another, and represent them in the public debate. We contribute to MEDCAN financially as part of our commitment to responsible progress that keeps patients at the centre in Switzerland.
