Though many painkillers can reduce the pain, however, there are a number of side-effects of these painkillers. That is why using CBD is a better option because you will not have to suffer from any side effects.
Cannabis has been used for a number of years for its medical benefits. Though the evidence for its effectiveness and safety is lacking, however, studies suggest that some compounds present in cannabis have therapeutic advantages for headaches and migraines.
A study was done in 2017 due to which researchers were able to find the effective and useful role of cannabis for helping people with migraines, but there is still a lack of study in this regard.
Another study previously done in 2016 indicated that cannabis may have an effect in reducing the frequency of migraines and headaches. However, the study did not describe the dosage and formula of CBD for those purposes.
Another study published in Cannabis and Cannabis research in 2017 witnessed the positive outcomes of oral cannabis. 26 people who met with medication overuse headaches, consumed ibuprofen, nabilone along with oral cannabis to fight the symptoms, over the time of six months. Each combination of medicines was used for 8 weeks and there was also a difference of 8 weeks between the combinations. The end results of the study revealed that the participants witnessed better improvements and a better quality of life while consuming nabilone and cannabis combination. However, this is to understand that the combination of compounds was used and not cannabis alone.
Pharmacotherapy issued a study in 2016 on the effects of marijuana on migraines. The research found that among the 48 participants, 40% of people observed fewer migraines overall. The biggest complaint was drowsiness and some had problems in determining the right dose.
CBD interacts with cells present in brain and the nervous system, these molecules are known as cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2. However, the relationship of the receptors and cells is not fully understood but their interaction has an effect on the immune system.
CBD helps the body to control metabolizing anandamide, which is a compound associated with the regulation of pain. By maintaining high levels of anandamide in the bloodstream, the feelings of pain can be reduced. The same phenomenon can be applied for migraines.
Apart from that, there is evidence of CBD limiting inflammation in the body, which further reduces the pain or other responses of the immune system.
CBD can be used in a number of ways for migraines relief including consuming CBD oil, pills or treats. Vaping CBD oil is more beneficial in migraines as it delivers in the bloodstream faster.
