What is CBD oil?

CBD oil is derived from the hemp plant, offering various applications without the psychoactive effects of THC. Understanding its chemical composition, extraction methods, and the different types available can help you make informed decisions when choosing one of our CBD oils.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, commonly known as CBD, is a naturally occurring compound found in the cannabis plant.

CBD oil is a concentrated extract of this compound, typically derived from hemp, a variety of the cannabis plant that is low in THC. Unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), another well-known cannabinoid, CBD does not produce any psychoactive effects, meaning it does not cause a "high" when consumed.

The Chemical Composition of CBD

The primary component of CBD is cannabidiol, one of the many cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. CBD interacts with the human body's endocannabinoid system, which plays a crucial role in maintaining homeostasis or balance in the body.

Although CBD and THC are both cannabinoids, they have distinct chemical structures and produce different effects. THC binds to receptors in the brain, causing psychoactive effects, whereas CBD has a more complex interaction with the endocannabinoid system and does not produce a "high."

Extraction and Processing of CBD Oil

What is CBD oil?

CBD oil is extracted from hemp using various methods, which are designed to isolate and preserve the desired compounds. The most common extraction methods include:

CO2 Extraction

This method utilizes carbon dioxide under high pressure and low temperatures to extract CBD from the hemp plant. It is considered the gold standard for CBD extraction, as it produces a clean, high-quality product.

We use this superior extraction method in Formula Swiss.

Ethanol Extraction

In this method, ethanol is used as a solvent to extract CBD from the plant material. While it is less expensive and more efficient than CO2 extraction, it may result in a less pure final product.

Oil Infusion

This is a traditional method that involves infusing a carrier oil, such as olive or coconut oil, with CBD-rich hemp. Although it is simple and cost-effective, it may not yield the same level of purity as other methods.

The Main Types of CBD Oil

There are three main types of CBD oil available, each with its unique characteristics and applications:

Full-Spectrum CBD Oil

This type contains all the cannabinoids and other compounds found in the hemp plant, including trace amounts of THC. Full-spectrum CBD oil is believed to provide the most benefits due to the "entourage effect," where the various compounds work together synergistically.

We offer a wide selection of full-spectrum CBD oils.

Broad-Spectrum CBD Oil

Broad-spectrum CBD oil is similar to full-spectrum, but it contains no THC. This type is ideal for individuals who want to experience the entourage effect without consuming any THC.

We offer a wide selection of broad-spectrum CBD oils.

CBD Isolate

This type contains only pure CBD, with all other compounds removed. It is the most refined form of CBD oil and is best suited for those who require a product with no THC or other cannabinoids.

We don't offer CBD isolate oils, because we don't believe they add much value to our customers due to the inferior product quality.
